Capable vs Unreliable

You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. 

You can present an opportunity but not incite motivation. 

Over the years I have met many people who were talented perhaps beyond their own comprehension.

They should be superstars but for one small reason it was not happening. 

At first I thought it was the fault of the toughness of the business and of course that does not diminish that fact.

 The truth was often something simpler. 

These people could not be relied upon. 

I have numerous stories to verify this. 

The drummer that I used to travel for miles to see (dragging my keyboard with me) who always appeared to be hearing my songs for the first time at each rehearsal. 

The bassist who just decided not to turn up one day. There was no warning about this and no response to my phone calls. 

At the start of any project all an artist has to offer is a vision that needs to be resold everytime. Alternatively the lure of the green stuff will secure some interest but that is usually scarce. 

Disappointment should be an expected companion to determination. The greater the latter the more persistent the former. 

Sometimes the lax attitude will not manifest at the beginning. This will lull you into a false sense of certainty. Bonds are built, memories made and a future of shared success imagined. 

Parting at this point is painful and a true inner strength must be cultivated because it is too easy to blame self and lose confidence in your ability to make good choices. 

Now is the time to remember everything is ultimately working out for good. 

Some are brought to us for a reason, a season and not all are deserving of your lifetime.
